I was just reading this article on Ars Techica about Mastodon. What is the most entertaining is the amount of misinformation and armchair speculation in the comments section from people who do not know what they are talking about.
Some of my faves:
The idea and implementation of the Fediverse is quite recent— according to Wikipedia, the underlying protocol dates to 2018.
As we learned from the crypto meltdown, ultimately people want centralization. If decentralized Mastodon actually takes off, the winner will be the creator of the best mobile app to navigate the different instances.
Mastodon is basically Usenet 2.0, with all of the same weaknesses. I honestly do not see it coping with the influx of Twitter refugees...
