New research in Psychology of Women Quarterly explores the relationship between how one presents themselves on social media platforms and their tendency to self-objectify. Researcher Shilei Chen and colleagues conducted four studies across different social media platforms looking for confirmation of this relationship and its potential causes. ...
Across a set of studies, we have shown that women with high-trait self-objectification are more likely to engage in strategic self-presentation behaviors, such as adjusting or editing their photos before posting them on social media, during their online interactions than women with low-trait self-objectification. Furthermore, we have found that this tendency toward strategic self-presentation seems to arise from an increased need for others’ approval.
The question I am asking myself is: is it different for men? The study does not say.
This planet is definitely weird :)
