I have been using Ubuntu since (I think) 2006. It has been a great OS, and I very much appreciate how convenient they have made setting up Linux for me over the years; however, the last year I have found myself wrestling with Snaps and some other defaults that I do not like.
Today, I am installing Debian Bookworm on a desktop server. This is my first try with Debian since 2005, when I gave up because I could not figure out how to build wifi drivers for my laptop.
So far the process has been very smooth. I am familiar with the basics like apt, gnome and nautilus and gedit for this to be comfortable. In fact, the core install is basically what I usually end up with after tweaking Ubuntu for an hour or so...makes me realize I probably should have switched to debian quite some time ago. I think I am officially a Debian fan.
